Western Method

Throwing Style

Instructions
  1. With yarn in front of the needles, insert the right needle from back to front through the leading leg (front loop) of the next stitch. The left and right needles will be sharing a stitch with the right needle crossed on top of the left needle.
  2. Wrap the yarn around the right needle in a left-to-right direction by taking the yarn from beneath the needle, over the needle, in between the needle tips, and to the back of the needle.
  3. Pull the wrapped yarn through the existing stitch on the left needle from front to back, reversing the motion from when the needle was inserted.
  4. Drop the stitch worked from the left needle.

Picking Style

Instructions
  1. With yarn in front of the needles, insert the right needle from back to front through the leading leg (front loop) of the next stitch. The left and right needles will be sharing a stitch with the right needle crossed on top of the left needle.
  2. Wrap the right needle by moving the right needle to the left of the yarn, behind the working yarn and into the space between the left index finger and thumb. The yarn will be resting on the needle.
  3. Pull the wrapped yarn through the existing stitch on the left needle from front to back, reversing the motion from when the needle was inserted.
  4. Drop the stitch worked from the left needle.

Pin Style

Instructions
  1. With yarn in front of the needles, insert the right needle through the leading leg (front loop) of the next stitch from right to left. The left and right needles will be sharing a stitch with the right needle crossed on top of the left needle.
  2. Wrap the right needle by using the left thumb to flick the working yarn over the front of the right needle, in between the needle tips, to the back of the right needle.
  3. Use the right needle tip to scoop the wrapped yarn through the existing stitch on the left needle from front to back, reversing the motion from when the needle was inserted.
  4. Drop the stitch worked from the left needle.

Instructions
  1. With yarn in front of the needles, insert the right needle from back to front through the leading leg (back loop) of the next stitch. The left and right needles will be sharing a stitch with the right needle crossed on top of the left needle.
  2. Wrap the yarn around the right needle in a right-to-left direction by taking the yarn from beneath the needle, over the needle, in between the needle tips, and to the back of the needle.
  3. Pull the wrapped yarn through the existing stitch on the left needle from front to back, reversing the motion from when the needle was inserted.
  4. Drop the stitch worked from the left needle.

Picking Style

Instructions
  1. With yarn in front of the needles, insert the right needle from back to front through the leading leg (back loop) of the next stitch. The left and right needles will be sharing a stitch with the right needle crossed on top of the left needle.
  2. Wrap the right needle by moving the right needle into the space between the left index finger and thumb and behind the working yarn. The yarn will be resting on the needle.
  3. Pull the wrapped yarn through the existing stitch on the left needle from front to back, reversing the motion from when the needle was inserted.
  4. Drop the stitch worked from the left needle.
